HILO HATTIE WELCOMES NEW ARRIVAL
March 2017 –Hilo Hattie, The Store of Hawai‘i, has welcomed a wide variety of new products this spring, ranging from women’s dresses and men’s polos, to tee-shirts and tote bags, to cookies, crackers, and coconut pudding mix. Now they are especially pleased to welcome a new member to the ohana.
“All of us at Hilo Hattie extend our warmest Aloha to Joao Oppenheim,” said Donald B.S. Kang, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pomare, Ltd. “Joao will be replacing our current Director of Sales and Marketing, Richard Yoo, who will be leaving us in a few months to return to Korea.”
Originally from Brazil, Mr. Oppenheim has an international business background that has taken him to Florida, California, Sao Paulo, and finally – back to Hawai‘i, which is where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Trade and Finance from Chaminade University.
“I have lived and worked all over the world, but there is no place like Hawaii,” said Mr. Oppenheim. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the team and be a part of an iconic Hawai‘i brand.”
In addition to speaking four languages, Mr. Oppenheim brings a diverse and welcome sales background to the retailer. “Joao has expertise in a wide range of disciplines including shipping, freight forwarding, logistics, and business operations,” said Mark Storfer, COO of Hilo Hattie. “We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber on our team.”
In his spare time Mr. Oppenheim devotes himself to world-championship water polo, a sport he has coached at Kamehameha Schools. How has it helped him in today’s competitive business environment? “You could say I’m an expert in keeping my head above water,” joked Mr. Oppenheim.
